Description
Cairo-born Mohammed Abdel Wahab (1902 - 1991) is considered one of the most important composers of 20th-century Arab music. Abdel Wahab composed hundreds of songs, many of them performed by the legendary singer for Kalsoum. Abdel Wahab was a true innovator. The use of Western instruments, the acquisition of the Western major and minor system, harmony, orchestration technique and the use of South American dance rhythms are all attributed to him. Funny detail is that the Egyptian Abdel Wahab also composed the national anthems of Libya, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates.
