Description

In January 1961, Bob Dylan arrived at Greenwich Village, the very place for a folksinger-poet. The Village had already gained a reputation for Bohemian ways, and had given birth to a generation of beatniks, courtesy of a generation of beat poets. It was in the Village's clubs that the early protest songs that became the anthems of the protest movements were written, and it was here that he honed his craft, playing alongside other legendary figures such as Dave Van Ronk and Tom Paxton. This is Positively Bob Dylan. For the first time ever, the story of the scene that was to spawn not only Dylan, but folk rock itself, influencing such unlikely candidates as the Byrds and the Velvet underground. Presented by an American historian, who not only knows most of the people who were there at the time, but lectures on Dylan at a New York University. Another edition of Artsmagic's 'Magical History Tours' looking at major cities around the world and their influences on the great musical acts that emerged from them. Previous installations have spotlighted Liverpool, London, Hamburg and Memphis.
