Description
Kyle Brenders' "Ways" explores that fertile space between structure and freedom. Written for musicians from Toronto's burgeoning improvised music scene, Brenders' score specifies material to be looped, stretched, repeated, and layered, allowing the players wide latitude to mutate their given material. Brenders' unique musical language draws on the avant-jazz tradition of mentor Anthony Braxton on the one hand, and the esoteric formations of Alvin Lucier on the other. The listener is invited to experience ways of hearing, ways of hearing space, ways of hearing connections, ways of hearing transformation.
