Description

Although Big Bill Broonzy was a pioneer of the Chicago blues style (he was a major source of inspiration to Muddy Waters) - during the folk revival, white audiences wanted to hear his early unaccompanied acoustic material, the kind he recorded during the 20's and 30's when he was the best selling artist on the Vocalion label, and he obliged. His most famous song, "Key to the Highway" has become a blues staple, covered by blues artists from Lightnin' Hopkins to Muddy Waters and popularized by Eric Clapton's version on his Derek & the Dominos "Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs" album. Big Bill's version of "House of the Rising Sun" was the version that inspired Eric Burdon and the Animals huge 1960's hit. Recorded in Paris in the early 50's, "Big Bill Broonzy Sings" features the master bluesman accompanying himself on acoustic guitar. Included is the original 9 -+ minute version of "Hollerin' And Cryin' the Blues." All selections newly remastered.
