Description
A notable fixture of the West Coast jazz scene, double bassist Monty Budwig first came into prominence in the mid1950's performing and recording with many top jazz musicians including Carmen McRae, Barney Kessel, Woody Herman, Red Norvo, Scott Hamilton, and Shelly Manne. He developed a close musical relationship with pianist Vince Guaraldi and performed with him live and on record. Presented here is Budwig's only known recording as a leader; 1978's "Dig," which features Budwig on string bass accompanied by Tom Ranier (piano); Arlette McCoy (fender rhodes); Joe Diorio (guitar); Billy Higgins (drums) and Bob Brookmeyer (valve trombone). All selections have been newly remastered.
