Description
'On Air' is a landmark collection representing a unique archival discovery of recordings made by Petula Clark for various BBC Radio programmes between 1951 and 1961. Prominently featured are selections from the long running 'Calling All Forces' programme where Petula appeared and broadcast on a weekly basis as the resident featured artist. Almost all of the performances featured on this collection have gone unheard since their original transmission and this release ensures these historical broadcasts are no longer lost to history. 'On Air' features 23 tracks, 18 of which make their debut on CD. Highlights include stunning performances from the 'Calling All Forces' programme including Rodgers and Hart's 'With A Song In My Heart' and Piaf's 'While The Angelus Was Ringing' ('Les Trois Cloches'), accompanied by Geraldo and His Orchestra with the George Mitchell Singers. Other standout selections include up-tempo covers of the Dean Martin and Line Renaud duet 'Relax-Ay-Voo' and the Doris Day hit 'Ooh Bang Jiggily Jang'. The collection also features live performances of Petula's own hit recordings 'Sailor' and 'Suddenly There's A Valley', plus a live rendition of the theme song to her 1952 film 'Made In Heaven' introduced by co-star David Tomlinson. Petula Clark 'On Air 1951 - 1961' is a Limited Edition of 500 units only.
