She cut her very first record, µTo Be Worthy Of You?, on her 20th birthday in March 1952, and was rewarded with a Top 5 hit. Alma topped the UK charts with µDreamboat? in 1955, and during the 1950s she registered 23 hit Records in Britain, far more than any other female singer. This is the first compilation to include all her UK hits, including further µsignature songs? like µBell Bottom Blues?, µI Can?t Tell A Waltz From A Tango?, µNever Do A Tango With An Eskimo? and µLast Night On The Back Porch?, alongside the pick of her other singles. Also featured are a number of her celebrated R&R covers, e.g. µTweedle Dee?, µWhy Do Fools Fall In Love?, µLucky Lips?, µFabulous?, µThis Little Girl?s Gone Rockin?? and µPink Shoelaces?. She enjoyed considerable international success, notably in Japan, where µHe Just Couldn?t Resist Her With Her Pocket Transistor? topped the charts. Alma died in 1966 at the tragically young age of 34, at more or less the peak of her popularity, following a battle with ovarian cancer.
