Richard Durrant & Howard Beach - Guitar & Harpsichordß(LongMan064 CD) Release date:17.11.2014 Concerto in Am RV 522 A VivaldißArranged ßRichard Durrant & Howard Beach ß Siciliano ßBWV 1031 JS BachßßArranged ßRichard Durrant & Howard Beach ß Concerto in D ßRV 93 A VivaldißArranged ßRichard Durrant & Howard Beach Largo BWV 529 JS BachßArranged ßRichard Durrant & Howard Beach ß Allegro BWV 529ß JS BachßArranged ßRichard Durrant & Howard Beach Introduction & Fandango L BoccherinißArranged ßJulian Bream Guitar & Harpsichord was recorded in Durrant's Shoreham Beach studios with Beach playing a superb Harpsichord, built by Lewes-based Malcolm Rose, respected worldwide for his craftsmanship. The album will give the world a permanent record of Beach's stunning keyboard technique (which has accompanied the likes of recorder virtuoso Piers Adams and opera singer Bryn Terfel) as he embarks on his radical career change.ß Beach's partnership with maverick guitarist Durrant has produced an album unusual in it's intensity. Harpsichord and guitar is a very unusual pairing (although Julian Bream and Malcolm Arnold did much to promote the sound in the early seventies) and it is only a player of Durrant's stature, with his huge tonal range, rhythmic drive and physicality, that can counter the relentless, brilliant precision of Beach's technique.ß The result is Vivaldi played with awesome strength and Bach treated with sublime sensitivity. Despite having first played together 25 years ago, Brighton based Howard Beach's imminent career change,ßfrom musician to Harrods "Salon de Parfums",ßbecame the catalyst for the two to record a collection of their own arrangements of Vivaldi and Bach, with Julian Bream's arrangement of Boccherini'sßFandangoßthrown in for good measure.ß Says Beach: "Leaving full-time music meant the writing was on the wall for recording our duets!" Over many years, Beach has been fascinated by fragrance counters the world over. To satisfy this passion he is managing the Clive Christian Perfume boutique in the new 'Salon de Parfums' of a world famous luxury retailer. Beach says of his retirement from music:ß"What was my passion is now my profession and what was my profession is now my passion!". Durrant talks about the album: "These arrangements have been brewing for years but, in the event, we could only find three days to record. Rather wonderfully they were in the middle of the July heatwave and they were days we won't forget."
