Description
Formed in the City of Brotherly Love back in 1976, Fat Larry's Band were major funk stars on the Philly soul scene, releasing nine albums within the span of a decade. Fronted by drummer Fat Larry James, who also played with The Delfonics and Blue Magic, the group was enormously popular on both sides of the Atlantic - adored by followers of Philly soul and also by fans of the exploding disco movement. Unfortunately, the group folded following the premature death of Larry James in 1987 at age 38. Recently, and fortunately for all fans of disco, funk and Philly soul music, Fat Larry's Band has been reborn featuring original members and some new recruits. Teaming up with legendary Philly soul producer Butch Ingram, Fat Larry's Band has recorded the timely single featured here. The lead track, "Tell Me What's Going On," speaks to what's going on in the streets, the Black Lives Matter movement and the current struggle. The song features samples of Dr. Martin Luther King's speeches and strives to connect the past with the present. The flip side is a funky cover of the Young Rascal's 1967 mega-hit "Groovin'" and features the distinctive groove that Fat Larry's Band is known for.
