Description
True Loves return with a soulful swagger on their latest vinyl 7", "Good Weed and Red Wine." The first release since 2021's album, "Sunday Afternoon," finds the band revitalized and funky as ever. The A-side features saxophonist Skerik delivering a bluesy and blazing baritone solo atop the rhythm section's syncopated 16 beat groove, with the welcome addition of special guest keyboardist, the legendary Nigel Hall, on keys. The song, begun over a wine and weed infused winter evening jam session, was penned by the youngest member of the group, trombonist Greg Kramer. "Dopus no. 1," the B-side follow up, was inspired by the band's festival performances with the likes of Lettuce, Femi Kuti, and The California Honeydrops. Guitarist Jimmy James' jagged intro riff sets a serious tone for the song's journey as the TL's horn lines glide over the influences of afrobeat and Curtis Mayfield, delving the band into new territory. Recorded to tape at Seattle's Avast Recording Studio B by Larson Haakenstad, the "Good Weed and Red Wine" vinyl 7" marks the True Loves next chapter in it's storied ten year history.
