Description
Eulogized by Kerouac in on the Road, Gray's flowing tenor sax was highly influential in the early L.A. bebop scene. These tracks (with Erroll Garner, Barney Kessel and Red Calendar) were recorded in '48, but Modern didn't put them out 'til after Gray's mysterious death in '55: Blue Lou; Sweet Georgia Brown; Tenderly; Just You, Just You, and more. A compelling chronicle of big band vets locking horns with the new bop breed. Boplicity.
