Description

Grimm is a modern troubadour who knows how to juggle autobiographical stories, personal experiences and the highly poetic imagery that evokes the small towns and the nature of his home-state Indiana. With THE TURNING POINT, Grimm continues to shareßhis deep affinity and connection forßhis native rural midwest. Butßwith this new recording, Timßexpands his writing to include two tracks that harken back toßtheß' old-country' roots of many of the midwest's immigrants. Tim has toured The Netherlandsßfor the past five years, his emotional bond evident in the telling of his visit to Anne Frank's house (ANNE IN AMSTERDAM),ßand in the settling of a murder ballad in 1780 in a village in the country's north (THE TURNING POINT). Another highlight of this recording, and a track favored by many European reviewers and DJ'S, is KING OF THE FOLKSINGERS, an ode to Grimm's friend, the legendary American Folk Singer, Ramblin' Jack Elliott. Grimm met Jack some 30 years ago and has travelled with him numerous times across the country. And, Elliott sang on Grimm's version of THE BUFFALO SKINNERS on the Coyote's Dream recording. The album includes nine originals and a cover of the traditional, Rovin' Gambler (learned from Elliott) Beth Lodge-Rigal contributes a song-- the haunting, FAMILY HISTORY, along with harmony vocals. Cindy Kallett also sings on two tracks. Diederik van Wassenauer, who has toured with Grimm is a Dutch born, Indiana fiddler making his recording debut here. Other Indiana- based musicians-- including Grey Larsen, also make appearances. Production ranges from solo guitar-vocal ballads (THE TREE)-- to slow-burns reminiscent of Dylan's DESIRE era (KING OF THE FOLKSINGERS)--to an uptempo and chuckling string band track (BLAME IT ON THE DOG). Reviews of THE TURNING POINT 4 1/2 stars- Maverick (UK) 4 stars- MOJO (UK) 'Pleasant surprise of the year - Tim Grimm at the Guitar Bar Nottingham ... Brilliant show, amazing fiddler and possible 'song of the year' ...'King of The Folk Singers' ...' NO DEPRESSION 'excellent album...these quite rivetingßstories have their roots in rural life and are as descriptive and well thoughtßout as those of most of the greatest singer songwriters of the last four or moreßdecades. Certainly Tim is of that quality on this album with his songwriting andßis a better vocalist than many... a huge talent (who is) genuinely 'the real deal!' American Roots UK 'Beautiful, dear readers, exquisitely beautiful, this new Grimm (disc). Top 10 of 2013.' REAL ROOTS CAFE- The Netherlands 'one of this year's best (cds)... a taste for melody and keen insight that few of his colleagues can boast. Along with greats like Greg Brown and John Gorka, Tim Grimm is in my opinion among the best singer-songwriters in the United States.' THE LONG JOURNEY- Roots and Country Music- ITALY 'Grimm has a voice of the ages... (a) work of character and contemplation ' Lonesome Highway- UK His songs are authentic, straight from the heart and almost without exception stunning.' ALTCOUNTRYFORUM - The Netherlands.
