Hedwig Eva Marie Kiesler was born in Vienna on November 9, 1913. One of the most beautiful women in film, Hedy began her career in 1930 in Czech and German films. She caused an international sensation by appearing nude and the resulting notoriety got her called to Hollywood where she was signed by MGM. In 1941, Hedy co-invented an early form of spread spectrum communication technology, a key to modern wireless communication. Hedy Lamarr died in Florida on July 19, 2000, and her son took her ashes to Vienna.
