Luther and Music: Five hundred years after the events of the Reformation it appears clearer than ever before that the Reformation would hardly have been as successful as it was if it had not been for music. And today, more than ever, it is the music of the great musicians who were inspired by the Lutheran Re-formation - like Heinrich Sch?tz and Johann Sebastian Bach or Felix Mendelssohn and Johannes Brahms that helps to keep the faith alive in the minds of the wider public. This collection of secular and sacred compositions offers a panoramic view spanning from the music from the days of Luther to his musical heritage up to the late Romantics. - The Hilliard Ensemblewas aBritishmale vocal quartet originally devoted to the performance ofearly music. The group was named after theElizabethanminiaturist painterNicholas Hilliard. Founded in 1974, [1]the group disbanded in 2014.[2] Although most of it's work focused on music of theMedievalandRenaissanceperiods, The Hilliard Ensemble also performed contemporary music, working frequently with the Estonian composerArvo P?rtand included in it's concerts works byJohn Cage, Gavin Bryars, Giya Kancheli, and Heinz Holliger.
