Description

These rare recordings of the legendary Jazz At The Philharmonic series of concerts were recorded on the 20th of April 1958 at the Konzerthaus in Vienna. Jazz At The Philharmonic or JATP as it is known was an extensive series of Jazz concerts produced by Norman Granz, initially in America, but later moving further afield to Europe, Japan and other parts of the world. The series of concerts ran from mid 1944. The first being held in Los Angeles on Sunday the second of July. The last was performed in Tokyo, Japan in October 1983. The recordings on this disc were part of the seventh European tour which took place in the spring of 1958. The concerts usually featured Swing and Bop Musicians and the artists featured on this disc do nothing to detract from that scheme of things. Featuring in part one: Oscar Peterson Trio: Oscar Peterson (p), Herb Ellis (g), Ray Brown (b) and in part two: Lou Levy (p), Max Bennett (b), Gus Johnson (d), Ella Fitzgerald (v)
