Oum Kalthoum, whose real name is Fatima Ibrahim al-Sayyid al-Beltagui, is an Egyptian singer, musician and actress born on December 18, 1898 in Tma?e El Zahayira (Egypt) died on February 3, 1975 in Cairo, at the age of 78 years. Nicknamed the "Star of the East", she is considered, more than 35 years after her death, as the greatest singer of the Arab world. With a contralto register, she is known for her powerful voice and her songs dedicated to religion, love and the Egyptian nation. She is also known as the "people's singer", having been involved in charity work to help the poor.
