Description
Originating in Ireland and Scotland, "Ceili" is a traditional Gaelic social gathering which usually involves playing Gaelic folk music and dancing. Before the advent of nightclubs and discos, Ceilis happened in most town and village halls on Friday or Saturday nights; a tradition that still endures. Today, Ceili bands thrive throughout Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales. The band presented on this classic album hails from Kilfenora, a small village in County Clare in Ireland. Produced by legendary Irish musician and scholar Mick Moloney, an important figure on the Dublin folk-song revival scene of the 1960's, the Kilfenora Fiddle Ceili Band album was recorded at the West County Inn, Ennis, County Clare on January 4th 1974. The masterful musicians that comprise the band are: Tommy Peoples, Tom Hegarty, Michael Kelleher and Tom Ward on fiddles; Jimmy Ward on tenor banjo; Paddy 'Organ' Mullins on flute; Michael Sexton on accordion; Pat Madigan on bass; Jimmy Leyden on drums and Kitty Linnane on piano. P.J. Murrihy is featured on guitar and vocals on tracks 4 and 11. All selections newly remastered. [Note: This product is an authorized, licensed CD-R and is manufactured on demand.]
