Matt Kivel produced his album, last night in America, entirely from his temporary home in Austin, Texas, playing all the instruments himself and focusing on minimalist arrangements. The result is a soft-spoken portrait of contemporary Americana, illustrated with brushstrokes of warm guitar, textural synths and evocative lyrics. Gently moving between dreamlike instrumental pieces and guitar-driven compositions, the album seamlessly blends ambient, folk, and lo-fi pop into something wistful and timeless. Last night in America emerges as a deeply intricate collection that blooms for the patient listener.
