Description

2008 collection. Ultra-desirable, early '60s St. Louis R&B that commands a small fortune in collector circles. The late vocalist Leo Gooden was an important local mover-and-shaker whose ear for talent helped him assemble one of the best bands of it's time. Although they never recorded for a major label, Leo's Five enjoy as big a reputation among fans of 'Soul Jazz' as do many groups with a considerably higher profile. This CD brings together the best tracks from their stupidly rare 1960 album, assorted even rarer St. Louis 45s on which they appeared as the 'instrumental accompaniment' and two fantastic 45s where they are fronted by Blues guitar legend - and a man who sat in with Leo's Five many times in his pre-fame days - Albert King. 21 tracks. Ace.
