Description
Very few solo recordings exist of the legendary Cuban percussionist Lazaro Pl+?, better known as Manteca; who rose to fame in the nightclubs of Havana in the 1940's and 50's. Manteca often became the high point of many a nightclub appearance - when he would emerge from the back of the bandstand to mesmerize the audience with his explosive conga playing. Leading a small but explosive Afro-Cuban combo, the master percussionist is captured here on these fine, rare recordings from the early 1960's. Featured are two of the best tracks from those sessions; "Abacua" and "Cosas de Manteca." Newly remastered.
