Description

Men In My Head is a mix of alternative rock and funk, sprinkled with hints of blues and soul. Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beck, and the killers have all learnt their influence to Men In My Head. Led by front man and guitarist Eddie Gindi, Men In My Head create pieces that resonate with fans of all ages and leave a lasting impression with song content spanning from life's journey to dreams not yet realized. For these rock aficionado's, songwritng and performances is their passion. "...if we can touch someone's heart and mind when they hear our music, if they start to dance and feel the vibe...it's all we need to keep us playing." My name is Eddie Gindi and I, along with my partners, own Century 21 Department Store. I have worked across the street from the World Trade Center since 1979. The WTC landscape and the downtown financial neighborhood were, and still are, part of my DNA. Our store was severely damaged during the 9/11 tragedy and was closed for six months. But we stayed, we persevered, we reopened and, thank God, we flourished! When the terrorist attacks of 9/11 occurred, it totally devastated my life. It affected me in ways that changed, hardened and saddened me for a long, long time. I was not able to talk or let any emotions out regarding that dark day. I could not watch any movies, videos or documentaries that chronicled the 9/11 disaster, and those emotions remained bottled up inside me for the next eleven years. Then last year, we went on a tour of the 9/11 Memorial and I saw the survivor tree. The story told to me was that soon after the attack, members of the parks department examining ground zero saw this burnt stump of a tree with just a branch sticking out amid all the ash and rubble. The men, whom I call heroes, dug out this burnt stump of a tree and replanted it in a Bronx park, hoping that it could be nursed back to life and grown again into it's former glory. Now over ten years later, there it was, right in front of me, replanted in the 9/11 Memorial with the Freedom Tower rising in the background. This survivor tree was not only alive, but it's proud leaves were fabulously blowing in the breeze. It persevered and is flourishing again, just like New York City has, and just like our store Century 21. After the tour I went to my office and cried, and all my emotions from that day came pouring out. It helped me to recover and to see firsthand that as horrible an act that the murderous terrorists committed that day, they still cannot stop the human spirit and cannot kill our Survivor Tree spirit. And from that spirit grew THE purpose. First, to write the song, then to find a way to share the song and use it to help those who suffered so grievously a loss during that tragic day, and whose lives are still impacted by it. To that end, C21 has partnered with the charity Tuesday's Children. Tuesday's Children dedicates all resources and monies raised to helping the children of the victims of the 9/11 attacks. It also provides aid and resources to all the first responders and their families who were so damaged from the events of that day. C21 is committed to helping raise money and awareness for Tuesday's Children, and we, along with my band Men in My Head, are now woven together in this worthy cause. And when you hear the song "Survivor Tree" and see the smiles of all the children who benefit from this charitable partnership, we hope that it will be heartfelt for you as well, and help us all heal. The song "Survivor Tree" is dedicated to that spirit and to those who persevered.
