Description
In an attempt to break away from the caricature of black music that was popular in America during the 1950s, Harold Courlander compiled this collection as documentation of black music in Alabama in it's purest form. This first volume of secular music highlights some of the different manifestations of black music during that time including the virtuosic harmonica playing of Joe Brown, the left-handed guitar playing of Willie Smith, and the popular ring games of school children.
