Quartet Supreme Quality Assured CD

Quartet Supreme began life in 2007 as a semi-regular jam session organised by saxophonist Edo Moria, featuring a melting pot of musicians with diverse national and musical backgrounds. After a string of gigs they honed in on their unique style of Contamporary jazz with a funk twist Or Electro-Jazz perform live. The debut album, Quality Assured, was recorded at Wick Studio in January 2009 with all songs recorded live in a huge hall, which was once an ice storage factory. The final product captures the sound of a band which has grown and evolved organically. The recordings took only one day to complete, with most tracks only requiring one take. Joining Edo in Quartet Supreme are fusion guitarist Ben Baker, electric bassist Simon Sheridan and all-round drummer, Mark Zerafa. Quality Assured is set to carve out a loyal following with it's fresh approach to jazz fusion and capturing parts of Victoria in song. 01 QA (Quality Assured) - QA was written while I was playing with my previous group "Try the Fish". It was originally a funk song with the brass providing a guide line on the 9, 13 of the chord. With Quartet Supreme I arranged it for jungle feel, with the tenor and guitar drawing abstract lines while Mark Z takes the lead on the song with some unbelievable solo drums. 02 Sun set over Mt. Dandenong (Mt Dandenong) - from my veranda on the slopes of Mt. Donna Buang I see the sun set over the Dandenong hills every day. On one of the afternoons I sat down and heard the melody loud and clear in my head. 03 Big ID (Big Idea) - My biggest influence as a sax player is the late, great Michael Brecker. His approach to music and sound was an inspiration to me. It was quite clear to me that I should record one of his compositions. Big Idea was first recorded in "Return of the Brecker Brothers" in 1992. 04 Funked - the original Quartet Supreme line-up with Julian and Noby had a habit of starting every practice session with a free jam. Julian played this addictive guitar riff. I put a melody to it. Noby came up with a break beat. The melody led to the 4th chord and a dance bridge and off we go! Classic Supreme material. 05 Frips - Ben Baker our guitarist introduced the Frips chords to us six weeks before recording and it became everyone's favourite in an instant. 06 Houzing - The first Quartet Supreme song. Got it's name from the time where Noby was looking to rent a place where he could practice his drums. 07 Green & Beige - Writing a jazz composition for me can sometimes happen after hearing a melody or a beat or a harmony and then I go back to my keys and work out the rest of the components. Never has it happened all at once. In Dec. 07, my good friend Nikki Green left Melbourne to join her partner Basil in WA. My wife and I helped her put her memories into boxes. When the work was done I was quite sad. As I drove back home I had the entire song in my head. All I needed to do was notate it. Even the name wrote itself. 08 Ben02 (Invisible Man)- Another Ben composition. Named after the king of pop, the late Michael Jackson and his journey of losing his original black colour to transparency.
