Description
One of the most prolific composers of popular music, the Frenchman Roger Roger received very little acclaim for his work because much of it was "stock music" written for large publishers like Chappell Music, who provided most of their product for largely uncredited use in radio, television, and film. Son of the famous conductor Edmund Roger, Roger began performing as a teenager and was leading his own dance band by the age of 18. He led a large orchestra for French radio after World War Two, and appeared in Paris theaters accompanying such singers as Maurice Chevalier and Edith Piaf. In the late 1940's, Roger continued to write for French radio, and later, television. By the time he retired in the mid-1970s, he had written over 50 radio productions, nearly as many television shows, and had music used in over 500 films. This classic 1960 audiophile recording remains one of his finest collections, and contains many of his best loved compositions including "The Girl from the Cafe Pigalle" and "A Stranger in Paris". All selections newly remastered.
