Description

A guitarist good enough to succeed Eddie Lang in Bing Crosby's band, Bobby Sherwood became a mainstay of Crosby's band from 1933 - 1942. During his tenure with the Crosby band, Sherwood led a busy career as a studio musician for MGM, led singer Eddie Cantor's radio show band and played briefly with Artie Shaw. In 1942, Sherwood formed his own band which included Flip Phillips, Dave Pell and Fritz Becker. Sherwood's orchestra scored a million-seller with their very first single, "The Elk's Parade," and toured the country on the strength of the hit. Sherwood remained active leading his big band into the late 1940's and began the start of a successful acting career, eventually starring with Frank Sinatra in "Pal Joey" in 1957. Presented here are sessions culled from the height of Sherwood's big band career, featuring guest appearances by vocal group Hall of Famers the Skylarks, and female vocalist Gale Landis. All selections newly remastered.
