By the later half of the 70s, when roots, DJ and dub dominated the Jamaican music landscape, few producers could equal the creative success of Joe Gibbs. Assisted by sound engineer Errol Thompson, Gibbs issued many of the most popular and in?uential recordings of the period, performed by some of the island's most celebrated artists. During this time, he released two similarly branded vinyl collections, each comprising ten of the ?nest roots and DJ sounds from the period: United Dreadlocks, Volumes 1 and 2. These hugely popular long-players provide the focus of this two CD collection, with their respective track listings bolstered by the cream of the producer's output from 1976 to 1977. Featuring numerous tracks new to CD, the compilation superbly demonstrates why Gibbs is still so highly regarded among fans of the reggae roots reggae sound.
